COURSE DESCRIPTION
The menopause transition can influence mood, sleep, cognition, stress responsivity, trauma responses and identity, yet it remains largely absent from mental health training. This free 60-minute training introduces an AIP-informed lens for recognizing when the transition is relevant to case conceptualization, history-taking, pacing and target selection — without a new EMDR protocol. Participants explore five areas: relational presence in the midst of dismissal; ACEs, trauma and earlier onset; the multiple pathways into menopause; overlooked factors affecting symptoms and processing capacity; and postmenopausal growth — while avoiding the assumption that every midlife difficulty is caused by menopause.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
-
Describe the role of relational presence and menopause-informed attunement in EMDR history-taking and preparation with clients across the menopause transition.
-
2 Identify at least three factors — adverse childhood experiences, alternate pathways into menopause and symptoms affecting processing capacity — relevant to EMDR case conceptualization during the transition.
-
3 Explain how an AIP-informed lens supports pacing, target selection and postmenopausal growth without requiring a new EMDR protocol.
